ATLANTA INTERIOR DESIGNER: Dreaded built-ins...

...and I mean that in the nicest way possible! I can't tell you how many clients have asked or sometimes begged me to arrange their built-in book shelves, which nearly every other home here in Georgia has. Actually, as we speak I have a car load of accessories waiting to be arranged at one of my client's homes. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with them.

My main objective is to fill them with a combination of truly interesting pieces as well as the meaningful things my clients already own. Getting these to all jive together in harmony is sometimes easier said than done...and most of the time I become super OCD for about two or three hours until I finally go..."okay, that's it".

Usually I begin by taking down all the fake greenery...I know...most people do not want to hear that because they spent good money having these done, but they have got...to...go. I also spend a good amount of time taking down 100 books and leaving 4 or 5 for fillers. And thirdly, as a general rule, having less is more. Take down the 6 or 7 small items and replace with 3 larger, more interesting things.

I happen to come across some inspiration on Pinterest that I really liked. I will compile a group of the one's that I've worked on personally at a later date.

Minus the mini tea cups and...shoe, I think this is adorable for a cottage of beach home.

Two things I've done recently that I liked were

1. Adding lamps to the built ins, one on each side to create some sort of symmetry.

2. Turning the books backwards, so you see the pages only, which has in some cases turned out much less distracting.

I would love to hear your thoughts or ideas on Built Ins.

Happy Designing!

ATLANTA INTERIOR DESIGNER: Clear Headed...

Christmas is over and things are starting to get back to normal here...if normal even exists in my world. It's been a wild few weeks but I'm excited about some very exciting things on the horizon.

With a New Year rapidly approaching, I figured I'd take it easy on you and give you something to clear your mind...

Top 5 "ghost" pieces of the... day :)

I've used this photo before because I love & need a black desk in my life. But the other thing I adore here are the acrylic side panels. They make the desk so much less-imposing while still using a powerful color.

I'm not sure how much more obsessed with this chair I could be. It literally makes me drool. I have got to find this or another form of a ghost Klismos-esk chair (my all time favorite chair style). I definitely think this is the chair that my in-progress office is meant to have.

The classic Louis Ghost Chair. Possibly the first acrylic or lucite piece that made me fall for it hard. Nursery, office, dining table, living room, master bedroom, foyer, front porch, ....I really can't think of a place I wouldn't want to use this bad boy. Sometimes I think it's because I play with so much color all day long,  I naturally gravitate to a strict lack of color. It allows my mind to just...breathe a little.

An adorable guest or young child's room utilizing another top 5 clear idea, nesting tables.

I love this space (did I mention the wing chair in the left corner? yum!) The acrylic or lucite cocktail table is one of those pieces that I think adds some flair to any type of space. This mostly modern & neutral room welcomes it with open arms. I think this looks great in the midst of a bunch of antiques, stretched out in a completely traditional space, or even in a room bouncing with color...just to ground it a bit.

Yes...I do believe I am in love. Thoughts?

ATLANTA INTERIOR DESIGNER: Stone Fireplaces...

I am working on a space that needs a two story stone fireplace design.

I believe this is a Candace Olson basement.

This room needs a little pizazz but I like the dark natural beams with the grayish stone color.

Mantel-less.

Nothing like a cozy fireplace to create a warm focal point in a room. I'm not quite convinced that I've found the perfect inspiration for this one yet...but I'll keep you updated.

Have a great week- Christmas is just around the corner!

Fancy Foyers...

First impression is everything...even in design. As soon as you walk into a room, it's how it makes you feel that's truly important.

I always use at least one very interesting or unique piece that represents my clients in their entry or foyer. Some...thing, artwork, unique accessory, or funky table that just sets the tone for the rest of the home. Come to think of it, those foyers, entry ways, and hallways that always go on the back burner, tend to be one of my favorite areas to design. Something about sprucing up the 'underdog' so to speak that makes me smile.

What does your foyer say about you?

Happy Monday Loves!!

ATLANTA INTERIOR DESIGNER: Hand Painted Wallpaper...

I'm sure some of you have seen this but it's officially been added to my growing to-do list. Hand-painted wallpaper. My good designer friend Ashley from Vogue Abode tried this and it turned out amazing. So even though I'm feeling fairly confident I can pull this off, I have little problem with this thing called patience.

Basically, using a pattern or stencil, you create a wall (or entire room) of a design that resembles a wallpaper motif.

I originally saw this one

And these eventually led me to an incredible website, cuttingedgestencils.com, which made my head start spinning with ideas!

Check some of these out:

It list goes on for days with the most amazing stenciling I've ever seen. They have categories for Holiday, Damask, Floral, Geometric, Nursery, Tree and Branch, etc, so you are sure to find the perfect match.

It kind of makes me want to stencil the entire house :)

will get this in our new home office/loft space, even if it takes me a month to complete. I'll make sure to take pictures of the process.

Whats your favorite stencil design?
